A Man of Many Hats

Carlos is an experienced Web Developer, Sound Designer, Photographer, IT Professional, Entrepreneur and a graduate from the internationally recognized Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). He has founded 2Active Design after years of professional and freelance experience and founded 2Active Audio as one of the few Sound Engineers in Honduras.

Carlos was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras in 1984 and raised in the coastal city of La Ceiba. He always expressed an interest for music and design. Not finding a proper channel in Honduras for that creativity, he explored many options. He was awarded a scholarship to study in Savannah, Georgia and specialize in Web Design and Sound Design at SCAD in late 2004. After being on the Dean’s List for many years because of his constantly above-average GPA, he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in Interactive Design and Game Development and a Minor in Sound Design.

The Employee

During his time there he was employed at the School of Digital Media (SFDM) at the Equipment Cage, where he was promoted to Assistant Manager. Here, he familiarized himself with professional grade Film and Television equipment. Thought he had no Information Technology degree, he did have positive recommendations from his superiors and he was soon hired as a Computer Technician for the University SFDM IT Department. Here, he gained considerable insight with the entire spectrum of software in use by all disciplines at that school. He also mingled with students and professors of other disciplines such as architecture, visual effects, film and animation, interior design, fashion, stop motion, and photography allowing him to familiarize himself with those industries as well. Carlos would later study photography independently after noting that clients usually required professional photography along with their website.

The Professional

Because of his already extensive portfolio and a successful interview, Carlos was soon hired as the Senior Designer for Systems Connect, the first and largest Internet Design company in Savannah, Georgia (older than Google!). Here, Carlos wore many hats and gained plenty of experience serving over 300 world class clients with a wide variety of expectations. Even though Carlos was hired as a Designer, he always gave more than he was asked and he also was the unofficial company IT Technician and a knowledgeable Sales Executive. This exposure further contributed to the quality of his work and polished up his customer service skills. His day to day interaction with the other highly motivated professionals in the office further influenced his own drive and wisdom in design, marketing, and the business world.

Founder: 2Active Design

While he was in SCAD, Carlos created 2Active Design as an image to represent his freelance web design work, knowing well that he would want to expand and use this as a brand rather than use his own name as freelancers tend to do. 2Active Design would later be formalized after the quality and variety of the work improved by leaps and bounds after the first few projects.

Founder: 2Active Audio

2Active Audio began with a PC Carlos built himself and a few instruments. He recorded songs for his own personal music projects and two bands that he was in at the time. After other musicians heard his recordings, he began to record other local talent. When he moved to Honduras, he was overwhelmed by the demand for knowledgeable Sound Engineers and is now working with various talent around La Ceiba, Honduras.

Doing it for Love

In keeping with his desire to contribute to his home town, he returned to La Ceiba, Honduras. Now, with 2Active Design and 2Active Audio, despite the deep political and economic crisis bashing the third world country, Carlos is expanding what was once a freelance opportunity into a full-fledged design and multimedia studio. He still works closely with his clients to create an online presence for them. As an extremely patient individual, Carlos has the ability to make the Internet a truly viable tool for even the most novice individual. Although a keen businessman with a constant drive for success and productivity, he is also very passionate about getting Honduras up to par with the other countries that lead the way through the Information Age. He is an advocate of multilingual websites and open source software, both of which, he believes, are the key to quick development in addition to open discussions about trends and the new media fundamentals. Designing for the Internet is a constant learning experience and one cannot afford to ignore contrasting views on the subject. He hopes to help Honduras embrace the Internet in an efficient and responsible manner which will lead to productivity and development. Even though his profession is financially rewarding in other countries, Carlos is rewarded in many other ways in his homeland.

Still Growing

2Active Design is gaining local support from word of mouth due to customer satisfaction and extra help has been hired due to increased demand. 2Active Audio has also been welcome in the community. Before studying Graphic Design, Web Development, and Audio Production; Carlos has been an accomplished guitarist and guitar instructor. He writes, records, and produces music and has started up one of the finest recording studios in Central America: 2Active Audio in La Ceiba, Honduras. He currently resides in his hometown and works to maintain the studio truly independent, always managing to produce video, audio and web content in-house. He recently inaugurated a mobile Pro Audio setup where he provides mobile audio and light display anywhere in La Ceiba, Honduras. He is now associated with a variety of musical talent to enable them to produce quality records and put on a world class show.

Carlos Velasco’s Summary

I have a strong background in information technology, computer hardware, and sound design. I am organized and process oriented even under pressure. I like to stay in the loop with current industry trends on a daily basis and I’m always on the lookout for ways to be more productive and effective both as an individual and as a team when applicable.

My primary goal as a Web Developer is to boost my client’s business by providing them with a virtual portal available to an international market. This allows them to work in ways that are not possible in a physical realm and I’m glad to be able to enable that ability with style and class.

As a Music Producer, I work with talented artists to compose, arrange, record, mix and produce music that has substance, meaning, emotion and is also catchy and sonically pleasing. I perform all the tasks at the studio including mastering. We’re leading the way in the region when it comes to making world class rock songs.

Carlos Velasco’s Specialties:

I have a strong base in valid HTML and CSS coding. I’m proficient with the Wordpress content management system and I am knowledgeable with jQuery interactive elements. I am skilled with Photoshop and Illustrator. Other tools include: Pro Tools, FL Studio, Premiere, Maya and 3D Studio Max.
