Sound effects or audio effects are artificially created or enhanced sounds, or sound processes used to emphasize artistic or other content of films, television shows, live performance, animation, video games, music, or other media.

In motion picture and television production, a sound effect is a sound recorded and presented to make a specific storytelling or creative point without the use of dialogue or music. The term often refers to a process applied to a recording, without necessarily referring to the recording itself.

In professional motion picture and television production, dialogue, music, and sound effects recordings are treated as separate element. Dialogue and music recordings are never referred to as sound effects.

Sound Design for Film

While my primary responsibility was the sound effects stem, I also participated in Foley and dialog sessions. I created the sound from the Omni sound library. Done for a Surround Sound Mixing Class at the Savannah College of Art and Design. 128 Tracks were used and around a total of 800 individual wav files. This clip from Die Hard was used because it was full of action and opportunities for sound effects.

The Day the Earth Stood Still. Done with sound effects created from scratch using noise generators in FL Studio and later brought into Pro Tools. All sounds were created especially for this project and no sound libraries were used.

Digidesign Pro Control Surround Board

This is the Surround Room in the SCAD Hamilton Hall. I developed my Die Hard IV mix in this room. It consists of Genelec speakers, a pro control mixboard and a Pro Tools 7 HD rig.

This is a screen capture of my Die Hard 5.1 Surround Session as was presented in my Surround Class Final. Sound Effects, Music and ADR were in their own separate Aux Tracks. 128 tracks and about 800 individual sound files were used. The universe window shows the complete layout.

Forever I Will Love You

I was asked to do the sound design for this stop motion animation. This was featured in an international festival. In this piece, I really tried to push the emotions of the characters using the effects and the music. Ambient sounds help to create the mood and are a driving force in almost every scene.
